Antelope Valley
Soaring Club (AVSC) is located at Krey Field in Adelanto, California. Krey
is about a 90 minute drive from most northern Los Angeles and Inland Empire cities.
The
Club was established in 1955. Originally located at the old El
Mirage airfield, the club moved to nearby Krey Field shortly after
El Mirage closed in the mid 80's. Krey Field is located only a
few miles away from the famous soaring conditions of El Mirage dry
lake.
AVSC is a charter
member of the Soaring Society of America. We are a non-profit organization. The main objective
of the AVSC is to promote and encourage the act of motorless flight.
Promotion of soaring excellence is enhanced by having
good aircraft and equipment, and a fine location.
The club offers four gliders - (1) Schweizer 2-32 (2 place), (1) Schweizer 1-26 E, (1) Schweitzer 1-34 and
a Blanik L-13 (2 place). These planes are all flight-line ready
and free of rental costs to all club members. Use of parachutes and other
equipment are also free to club members.
Club membership
is limited to 60 active members. Low membership numbers mean high
availability of the ships and equipment. We currently have active
memberships available.
AVSC
has its own resident Glider Flight Instructors (CFI-G), and
its own FAA Designated Examiner, the only examiner for gliders in
San Bernardino County. Come on out, join the club, learn to
fly, and get your license. It's that simple! Flying lessons are
available on most weekends. Also available are
club check pilots for those people who are already pilots, but
have not flown in a while.
If you'd like to
join, come on out to the field, meet and greet with our members. If you're right for the Club, and the Club's
right for you, then fill out an application (right click and select Save Target As), and bring it to the next meeting.
Currently Krey
Field has regular operations on Fridays and Saturdays, but will open any day by prior appointment..
If
you are looking for a well established, quality soaring club with
excellent flying conditions, un-crowded skies, and plain old good
times, come by and see us at the Antelope Valley Soaring Club.
