The Club was established in 1955. Originally located at the old El Mirage airfield, in 1982 El Mirage field was closed, and the AVSC eventually moved to Krey Field. Krey Field is a large private airport located only a few miles away from El Mirage dry lake. AVSC is a charter member of the Soaring Society of America. We are a non-profit organization. The main objective of the AVSC is to promote and encourage the act of motorless flight. Promotion of soaring is enhanced by the benefits of having good equipment, and a great flying location. The club offers four sailplanes - (1) Schweizer 2-32 (2 place), (1) Schweizer 1-26 E, (1) Schweitzer 1-34 and a Blanik L-13 (2 place). These planes are all flight-line ready and free of rental costs to all club members. Parachutes and other equipment are also free of fees to club members. Club membership is limited to 60 active members. Low membership numbers mean high availability of the ships and equipment. We currently have active memberships available. AVSC has several FAA Certified Flight Instructors – Glider (CFIG), and
its own FAA Designated Examiner, the only examiner for gliders available in If you'd like to join, come on out to the field, and meet and greet and get a ride with one of our club members! If you're right for the Club, and the Club's right for you, then fill out an application (right click and select Save Target As), and bring it to the next meeting. Currently Krey Field has operations on Friday, Saturday, and some summer Sundays.
